Testing Information for Chlamydia

General Chlamydia Test Information

- Tests for the STD Chlamydia primarily use either a urine sample or some form of bodily fluid to see if Chlamydia trachomatis is presently causing an infection.

- When testing for the chlamydia infection there are several different method’s of testing to pick from, the majority of tests take a body fluid sample.


Chlamydia Tests Types Include:

  • Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT)
  • Nucleic acid hybridization tests (DNA probe test)
  • Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA, EIA)
  • Direct fluorescent antibody test (DFA)
  • Chlamydia culture

Preparations for a Chlamydia test

-If it is a direct sample, women should avoid cleaning their vaginal area and pubic region for 24 hours before the test to be accurate.

-A urine sample requires the female to NOT urinate for two hours before giving a sample.
